Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund Unveiling New Ads Slamming Senator Thom Tillis and Senator Joni Ernst for Being Backed by Special Interests like the Gun Lobby, Big Oil, and the Pharmaceutical Industry

Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund Partnered with Senate Majority PAC to Produce the Ads

NEW YORK – Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund unveiled new TV and digital ads in North Carolina and Iowa, slamming Senators Thom Tillis and Joni Ernst for taking money from the gun lobby and other special interests, like the oil and gas and pharmaceutical industries, while blocking common-sense gun safety measures and voting against the interests of their constituents time after time.

Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund is spending $5.4 million to run the ads, which voters will see on broadcast and cable television, and digital platforms. Produced in partnership with Senate Majority PAC (SMP), these ads represent Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund’s first television ads of the 2020 election cycle.

“The clear majority of voters in Iowa and North Carolina want stronger gun laws and deserve to know that Senators Joni Ernst and Thom Tillis have ignored the gun violence crisis while receiving millions in support from the NRA, an organization with so many allegations of corruption that it’s facing potential dissolution,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Senators Ernst and Tillis may be beholden to special interests, but they ultimately answer to the voters, who will make their voices heard this November.”

Senator Tillis is backed by $4.4 million from the gun lobby — more than almost any other sitting member of Congress — and has actively opposed common-sense gun laws that would curb the gun violence crisis that kills 1,300 North Carolinians every year. Everytown Victory Fund is spending $3.2 million to run both ads statewide in North Carolina, with a heavy focus on the Raleigh, Charlotte, and Greensboro media markets.

Senator Ernst is backed by $3.1 million from the gun lobby and has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the oil and gas industry and insurance industry, despite campaign promises to buck special interests and prioritize Iowans. Everytown is spending $2.2 million to run both ads statewide in Iowa, with a focus on the Des Moines, Omaha, Sioux City, and Cedar Rapids’ media markets.

This year, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund will spend $60 million on the 2020 elections, doubling what they spent during the 2020 elections.
