Members of Congress received pipe bombs in 2018; House candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene called it a hoax by the targets

Shortly before the 2018 midterm elections, pipe bombs were mailed to CNN, prominent Democrats, and members of Congress. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a right-wing commentator who is now running for Congress, responded to the news by telling her social media followers that the packages were a hoax perpetrated by the targeted people and the left in an “attempt to create a blue wave.”

Greene is running for Congress in Georgia's 14th Congressional District, where she is heavily favored to win in November. Before running for Congress, Greene was a pundit who regularly posted toxic rhetoric online.

Greene has expressed support for the violence-linked QAnon conspiracy theory; falsely claimed that there’s no evidence a plane hit the Pentagon during the 9/11 attacks; and accused the Obama administration of using MS-13 gang members to murder former Democratic staffer Seth Rich.

Politico also reported that Greene posted Facebook videos in which she expressed “racist, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic views,” while NBC News documented that she “wrote dozens of articles as a 'correspondent' for a conspiracy news website.”

In 2018, Trump “superfanCesar Sayoc embarked on what prosecutors described as a “two-week terrorist attack” by mailing explosive devices to numerous people. His targets, as Courthouse News Service wrote, were “President Barack Obama; ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; ex-Attorney General Eric Holder, Congresswoman Maxine Waters; former CIA Director John Brennan, ex-national intelligence director James Clapper; actor Robert De Niro; liberal financiers George Soros and Tom Steyer; CNN newsrooms in New York and Atlanta; and Democratic candidates Joe Biden, Cory Booker, and Kamala Harris.” Sayoc is now serving a 20-year federal sentence.

During the terrorist spree, and before Sayoc was arrested, Greene wrote on Facebook page that the packages were a hoax.

She initially posted on her Facebook page on October 24: “Interesting October surprise. First, I’m very glad no one was hurt! Hopefully no one else will!! I have my own initial thoughts about this but I’m holding them for now.” She then made her views clear in response to her followers.

One commenter wrote: “These packages are all being sent from the left to themselves. The fact that none were successful is proof. They're trying to scare voters to believe the right is doing this. It's going to be real bad when the truth comes out!!” Greene replied

You are very smart!! And that’s my initial thought as well. Look deeper into the “victims” of this. Who are they? Understand what deflection means. Then again look at who the victims are and ask what are they hiding?? Obama, HRC, CNN, DWS, Florida Congress woman, now Maxine Waters!

Sunrise Fla is Broward County where Parkland shooting occurred.

In response to one person who asked “what are we being distracted from,” Greene replied: “The red wave that is swelling ... Attempt to create a blue wave.”

She also agreed with commenters who called the packages “false flags”; claimed that “they planted there themselves so people [believe the bomber is a] Trump supporter! Or left side people did that!”; said the packages were “really fake shit”; and wrote that “they sent them to themselves, not one of them went off ... trying to divert attention away from the invasion of illegals and from President Trump while he speaks on the Opioid epidemic.”

Another commenter wrote that the packages were “self inflected (sic)” to which Greene replied with a “100” emoji.
