Who can apply?

The following groups are eligible to apply:

  • Municipalities, local and regional governments established under provincial or territorial statute, including local service districts;
  • Public sector bodies that are established by or under provincial or territorial statute, or by regulation, or are wholly-owned by a province, territory, municipal or regional government;
  • Indigenous governing bodies;
  • Federally or provincially incorporated not-for-profit organizations whose mandate is to improve Indigenous outcomes, organizations serving Indigenous communities living in urban centers and First Nations living off-reserve;
  • Indigenous development corporations; and,
  • Federally or provincially incorporated not-for-profit organizations.

Please note that individuals, private citizens, provincial and territorial governments (including Crown corporations); and federal entities, including federal Crown corporations are ineligible to apply to this stream.

What types of projects can receive funding under the Planning and Design Projects stream?

Eligible applicants can seek a grant of up to $50,000 through the Planning and Design Projects stream to support transit planning activities toward the development of new or expanded transit solutions.

Some examples of activities that are eligible under the stream include: public engagement, needs assessments, feasibility or viability studies, surveys and assessments of routes or modes of travel.

Key dates and deadlines

The application intake for the Planning and Design Projects stream is currently open on a continuous basis. To apply, please visit Infrastructure Canada's applicant portal. Infrastructure Canada will provide notification on its webpage in advance of the closure of the application intake.

Webinars are also being held to provide applicants with an opportunity to learn more about the Rural Transit Solutions Fund and ask any questions they have.
