You should, especially this week, which is Manufacturing Week in Pennsylvania. Many area companies have events, including tours, planned for the week and beyond.

The purpose of the week is to recognize the importance of manufacturers in Pennsylvania and throughout the nation. Today, in fact, is Manufacturing Day in the state and U.S.

Manufacturing accounts for $79 billion annually in economic impact across the state, reports Roger DuPuis of the Central Penn Business Journal, a sister paper of Lehigh Valley Business. He also writes that Pennsylvania manufacturers employ more than 569,000 people with an average annual compensation of $62,140.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is a former successful businessman, and he knows the value of manufacturing. He also knows the importance of trade schools in training the next generation of skilled manufacturing workers. It’s all in Wolf’s proclamation about Manufacturing Week and Manufacturing Day.

So, here’s a tip of the cap to manufacturers, today and every day. Now if the governor could just stop asking for tax hikes.
