WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) -- The National Sports Media Association has named Mark Woodley as the 2020 Iowa Sportscaster of the Year. Woodley is among 51 first-time winners in the 2020 state sportscaster or sportswriter honor and among 108 winners in the state awards category.

He is a Dike native who currently serves as weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter, spending the past 16 years working for KWWL.

Woodley joins the ranks of other previous winners that include Gary Dolphin. Nominations are made by the individual's peers in the sports media industry. The announcement was made January 11, when the NSMA announced not just its state winners, but also its national winners as well as its Hall of Fame inductees.

The winners will be honored at the organization's 61st awards weekend set for June 26-28 in Winston-Salem, N.C. You can see the full list of winners here.

On its website the NSMA says it is the older organization in the United States honoring sports media. The non-profit works to develop educational opportunities for individuals wanting a career in sports media. It is also committed to preserving and celebrating the legacy of sports media in the U.S.
