(UPDATE: 10/17/19 at 10:30 p.m.)

Detectives in north Nashville have charged TSU student George Wells, Jr. with reckless homicide for Sunday's shooting that left fellow student Rickey Scott, 19, dead.

Wells, 18, lived in the same Watson Hall dormitory as Scott and told police late Wednesday that he brought what he thought was a pellet gun to Scott's room and was handling it when he pulled the trigger. Scott died not long later at Skyline Medical Center.

Wells was identified as a suspect after he was spotted on security footage going into Scott's room before the shooting.

The gun hasn't been recovered.

Wells is being held in the Davidson County Jail on a $45,000 bond.

UPDATE:

Metro Police have released new information regarding the shooting death of Rickey Scott, who was found wounded at Watson Hall dormitory on TSU's campus Sunday.

Metro Police first got involved with the case after 1:00 p.m. after officers were notified that Scott, of Ohio, was being transferred from Centennial Medical Center to Skyline Medical Center.

Scott had a critical gunshot wound to his torso that was discovered during an examination at Centennial.

He was transported by ambulance to Centennial for what was believed to have been a non-trauma related medical issue.

Scott was pronounced dead on Sunday afternoon at Skyline.

Detectives have determined that Scott was likely shot at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Multiple people were interviewed by detectives on Sunday and Monday and campus surveillance video has been reviewed.

Police have not recovered the gun despite the execution of a search warrant Sunday at the dorm room.

This investigation remains active.
