JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Volunteers with the Missouri Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today applauded the final defeat of two dangerous gun policies:
- HB 630, which would have changed Missouri law to allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in Missouri schools, college and university facilities and bars, along with daycare centers, sports arenas and police stations. More information about the bill is available here.
- HB 96, which would have punished private business owners who choose not to allow loaded handguns on their property.
Both bills expired when Missouri’s state legislative session ended this evening.
The Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action worked tirelessly throughout the session to urge lawmakers not to pass these reckless bills. The group held an advocacy day at the state capitol with more than 150 volunteers, testified at hearings alongside other gun violence prevention advocates and drove calls and emails to lawmakers asking them to oppose the measures.

“We’re relieved that our lawmakers listened to the concerns of educators, law enforcement, and Missouri moms and did not pass these dangerous bills. Reckless measures like these have no place in our state. We’ll continue to do whatever it takes to remind our leaders we expect them to protect our communities from attempts to further weaken our gun laws.”
