The Stockton University women's basketball team will be looking for more improvement from last season in the shortened eight-game schedule. Coming off a 10-win campaign in 2019-20, the Ospreys will face four opponents (TCNJ, Rutgers-Newark, Rutgers-Camden, New Jersey City) against whom they posted all five of their conference wins last year.
Head coach
Devin Jefferson will have young squad but also will have some quality experience among the 11-player roster of six returnees and five newcomers. Three freshmen, four sophomores and a quartet of juniors and seniors combined make up this year's team.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to play, even though it's a shortened season," said Jefferson. "This team is fun to be around, we are preparing to be competitive in every contest. I'm fortunate to coach a group of dynamic young women."
Junior
Emily Donzanti returns after tying for the team lead in scoring at 9.8 points per game while leading the squad with 32.0 minutes played per game a year ago. Donzanti placed third in the NJAC in assists (3.3 apg) and steals (2.6 spg). She dished at least four assists in 11 of Stockton's 25 games last season and scored in double figures 12 times.
Sophomore
Ionyonia Alves will look to build on a tremendous first season in Galloway. The rookie topped the team in rebounding (7.1 rpg, 9th in NJAC) and scored 6.9 points per game with 20 blocks. She also led the Ospreys in shooting at 43.5 percent and her 3.3 rebounds on the offensive glass was fourth in the NJAC and second among all freshmen.
Alves improved steadily over the course of the season and scored a double-double with career highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds against Kean in February. She also grabbed double-digit rebounds in five of the team's last nine games of the year.
Senior
Chyna Wooten played in all 25 games, adding 19 assists, 18 steals and eight blocks underneath, while fellow senior
Kirsten Flournoy returns after missing last season with an injury. Flournoy made 10 starts and averaged 6.0 points and 3.9 rebounds two years ago.
Sophomore
Aiya Underwood also played in 24 games with nine steals and four blocks last year, with fellow soph
Maddie McCracken rounding out the returnees. McCracken scored 6.6 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds, with 15 assists and seven steals in 14 games after joining the team as a midseason transfer. She should play a bigger role in her second year at Stockton.
Filling out the squad will be a pair of transfers and three freshmen. Junior
Kadinah Harris-Hood and sophomore
Theresa Besso are three-point shooting threats who will provide some scoring from the outside. Harris-Hood played two seasons at Rowan South Jersey-Gloucester while Besso saw action in 17 games as a freshman at William Paterson last year.
Freshman
Jordyn Madigan is a quick and energetic point guard who could give the Ospreys a boost. Jefferson said, "She does all the little things and is a true floor general." A pair of freshmen round out the roster.
Emma Morrone will play tough defense and will be a combo guard while
Adriyana Jennings will use her all-around game to help the Ospreys.
