4/24/2021 6:54:00 PM

Box Score Cortland, NY — Playing in its third match in as many days, the State University of New York at New Paltz finished up with another win to stay undefeated on the season after defeating SUNY Cortland on the road, 8-1.

"A solid performance ending up a three-match sequence," said Hawks coach Rob Bruley. "A strong performance winning all three doubles matches took pressure off our singles play."

SUNY New Paltz (4-0 overall, 4-0 SUNYAC) rested two-time SUNYAC MVP Trinity Chow for the match and freshman Tatiana Barnett stepped up in her absence to play with Laura Koob at first doubles to handily defeat the Red Dragons' Logan Streety and Isabella Bonapace, 8-2. Onalee Batcheller and Alexandra Dratch earned the win at second doubles, 8-3, and Jenna Grandville and freshman Loretta Donovan got the job in third doubles as well, getting the 8-0 sweep.
 Alex Chimenti
With Chow out, the Hawks moved up their singles lineup with Koob playing at first, Grandville at second, Batcheller at third, Barnett at fourth, Alex Chimenti at fifth and Donovan came in to play sixth singles. Donovan was impressive in her singles match, defeating Shannon McGuire, 6-0, 6-2. Barnett swept Bonapace in her match, 6-0, 6-0. Koob and Batcheller dropped just one point in their singles matches, winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively, while Chimenti earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Abby Madigan gave Cortland its lone win of the day as she defeated Grandville, 6-2, 6-2.

"Both freshmen stepped up today winning in both their singles and doubles matches," Bruley said. "Some much-needed rest will see us through our final upcoming two regular season matches."

SUNY New Paltz has two more regular season matches left, playing Plattsburgh on the road April 29 before concluding with SUNY Oneonta at home May 2.
