The James and Yvonne Ziemer Clinical Simulation Center provides a safe learning space for students to practice hands-on skills using simulation.
Simulation provides a modeled environment for students to experience aspects of patient care without fear of harm to an actual patient using models, manikins, medical equipment, and human patient simulators. Some of the simulators run with computer software which allow it the ability to breathe, talk, and maintain a blood pressure and pulse.
A safe and innovative learning environment
A place for learning a variety of strategies, settings and equipment, with clinical simulation as one of the major tools. Clinical simulation using patient models, manikins and medical equipment provides students with a safe learning environment to practice care.

About the Simulation Center
UWM School of Nursing actively works to use simulation as a way to educate and train not only nurses, but also other health care providers, and first responders in the community. Coupling that with researchers that are interested in innovative approaches we have a chance to provide a place on campus where we can simulate the kinds of areas that we need to provide the answers to the sticky questions of health care today.
Accreditation
The simulation program is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
UWM’s program is one of only two nursing simulation programs with full accreditation in the state of Wisconsin. This accreditation signifies our commitment to excellence, quality and continuous improvement in healthcare simulation and adult education.

Mission
At the James and Yvonne Ziemer Clinical Simulation Center (hereafter referred to as the “Simulation Center”), it is our mission to enhance healthcare professional education and clinical leadership by creating simulated environments that promote knowledge development, patient safety, skills application, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and competency.
We strive to demonstrate the UWM Nursing Core Values of Accountability, Collaboration, Creativity, Diversity & Inclusion, Excellence, Human Dignity, Integrity, and Social Justice by promoting “academic discourse and debate in a climate of civility” and “creating opportunities to understand the perspectives of others” in a simulation environment.
Students in simulation apply patient care concepts and collaborate in various learning environments, such as acute care, critical care, pediatrics, obstetrics, primary care, and population health areas of practice. Through simulation, students demonstrate and strengthen leadership qualities including communication, delegation, prioritization, teamwork, safety, and professionalism to promote and enhance patient healthcare outcomes.
