The Nebraska chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network is excited to host an in-person OpEd writing workshop for all interested researchers in the Omaha area. Participants will have a chance to hear directly from Cate Folsom, Editor-in-Chief at the Nebraska Examiner, about what they look for in commentary contributions from academics, with time for Q&A. This hands-on workshop will equip scholars with the tools to write compelling, research-based OpEds and get started on putting their first draft together. Participants will learn the ins and outs of crafting a strong OpEd— from finding a timely hook, to composing a clear key message, to structuring the piece for maximum impact — and will then put what they learned into practice by starting to write a draft OpEd, with time to receive feedback. Participants are asked to come prepared with an idea for an OpEd to make the most of the workshop. This workshop is great for all scholars, whether they have written OpEds before or are just starting to think about writing their first. Lunch will be provided.
