Galloway, N.J. – A pair of Stockton University soccer players were selected for All-Region recognition by the United Soccer Coaches. Senior back
James McCombs (Brick/Brick Memorial) was voted
All-Region IV Second Team in men's soccer. Senior midfielder
Sydney Williams (Millville/Millville) was chosen
All-Region IV Second Team in women's soccer.
McCombs became the 32nd Osprey in Stockton men's soccer history and first since 2015 to earn All-Region status. He is the second member of his family to receive an All-Region nod in a Stockton uniform, joining his father Jim McCombs who was All-Region Third Team in 1993.
Williams became the 32nd player in Stockton women's soccer history to garner an All-Region nod. With the 2020 season canceled due to COVID, 2021 marked the third straight time and fourth in five seasons in which at least one Osprey was named All-Region (
Salena LeDonne 2019, Dasey DiElmo 2018 & 2019, Adrianna Boucher 2016).
After missing some early season games due to injury, McCombs joined the lineup and anchored the Stockton defense in 12 matches, starting 11 including all nine NJAC regular season contests plus the NJAC Tournament game at Rowan. In his 12 games played, he helped the Ospreys post seven shutouts and hold two more opponents to just one goal.
McCombs was voted NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and collected his second straight NJAC First Team accolade for his efforts. In three seasons at Stockton after transferring from St. Joseph's University, he played in 37 games with 36 starts, contributing defensively in 18 shutouts.
Williams was the top offensive player for Stockton this season, leading the Ospreys in assists (9) and points (23) and tying for the team lead in goals (7). She topped the NJAC in assists, tied for the conference lead in points and tied for sixth in goals. Williams started all 24 games and potted two game-winning goals.
Williams was chosen NJAC First Team and earned a spot on the ECAC All-Tournament Team after helping Stockton win the ECAC title. The all-conference honor was her third straight (2019 NJAC Second Team, Spring 2021, 2021 NJAC First Team).
After transferring to Stockton from Jefferson, Williams started all 51 games over the last three seasons, totaling 16 goals and 13 assists for 45 points.
