Stockton Uses Balanced Scoring in 80-65 Victory

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-7, 9-3 NJAC) led from the opening tip and cruised to an 80-65 win over Rutgers-Camden (6-13, 3-9 NJAC) on Wednesday night. Freshman Jordan Williams (Trenton/Trenton Central) and senior Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) led the Ospreys with 15 points apiece.

The Ospreys jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead before the Scarlet Raptors answered with seven straight points, forcing Stockton into a timeout. That was as close as the contest would get as the Ospreys ran off the next 18 points for a commanding 27-7 lead. Freshman DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) tallied all 10 of his points during the spurt.

After the visitors rattled off five quick points at the 6:22 mark, Stockton finished off the half with Taylor scoring eight points down the stretch for the 39-21 halftime advantage for Stockton. The defense was stellar for the Ospreys, holding the Raptors to 24 percent (6-25) shooting while hitting 14-33 (42.4%) at the offensive end during the first stanza.

Rutgers Camden came out of the break on a 12-4 run to close to within 43-33 with 16:30 left in the game. The spurt was answered by a Williams three-pointer, five markers by Taylor and a three-ball by Tariq Baker (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Anthony's) to push the margin back to 54-33 and end the comeback hopes for the Raptors.

The lead reached as many as 29 points at 73-44 at the 5:09 mark before both squads started to empty their respective benches. The teams finished up the remainder of the game with Stockton taking the 80-65 victory.

Taylor also dished a game-high five assists, pulled down seven rebounds and shot a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Campbell and Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) chipped in with 10 points each. Stockton had 16 assists on 29 baskets on the evening.

Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) grabbed a season-high nine rebounds to pace the Ospreys, who held a massive 47-30 advantage on the glass. Baker and Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City) both pulled down seven boards for the game.

For the Scarlet Raptors, Arian Azemi scored 15 points, with Ian McCarthy adding 13 markers. Keysean Simmonds and Jake Petrik chipped in with 12 and 10 points respectively. Isaac Destin grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, with two steals and a pair of blocks.
