Stockton Wins First of the Season 18-11

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-1) evened their record with a convincing 18-11 win over Susquehanna University (1-1) on Wednesday night.  Freshman Aubrey Giordano (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) scored seven goals with an assist for eight points. The win gave head coach Denise Roessler her first victory at Stockton.

Stockton potted the first three goals of the game, two coming from Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/West Caldwell) before the River Hawks got on the board. A pair of markers by Mary Meduri (Brigantine/Our Lady of Mercy) and another by Marinello offset two scores by the visitors to give the Ospreys a 6-3 lead after one frame.

Stockton outscored the River Hawks 4-2 in the second period for a 10-5 margin at the break. Giordano, Meduri, Marinello and Lucy Sullivan (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) pushed the home squad to the five-goal advantage.

Stockton outscored Susquehann 4-3 in the third quarter as Giordano hit the back of the net twice more, with Meduri and Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, PA/Abington) chipping in with one tally each..

Stockton put the exclamation point on the game by outscoring Susquehanna 4-3 in the final period as Giordano potted three more goals, with Mary MacLaughlin (Somers Point/Mainland) adding a free position marker for the 18-11 final score.

Marinello and Meduri backed up Giordano with four goals each. Marinello, Giordano and Drew Coxson (Chatham/Chatham) added assists on the day. Coxson also caused four turnovers and Meghan Pellegrino (Somers Point/Mainland) scooped five ground balls.

Goalkeeper Jordan Hawkes (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) made nine saves in net for Stockton for her first win of the season.
