Shahyan Abraham (Orange/Orange) was chosen as the NJAIAW Woman of the Year for the Ospreys. Abraham is a two-sport athlete who competes in indoor track & field and outdoor track & field at Stockton.
The
New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women recognizes the outstanding achievements of female athletes in New Jersey by celebrating one honoree from each high school, junior college and senior college in the state. The winners were acknowledged with a reception at Seton Hall University on Saturday.
Abraham has amassed five career NJAC all-conference honors to date and was chosen the NJAC Outstanding Field Athlete for outdoor track & field last spring. She is a two-time NJAC champion and NJAC First Team selection in the shot put, winning the event indoors and outdoors last year.
Abraham's all-conference honors also include NJAC Second Team in discus and hammer for the 2022 outdoor season and NJAC Honorable Mention in the weight throw for the 2021-22 indoor slate.
In addition, she earned four USTFCCCA All-Region accolades last year, for the shot put and weight throw indoors plus the shot put and discus outdoors.
Abraham has continued to excel this indoor season, breaking her own school record in the weight throw with a distance of 17.58 meters that is the best in the NJAC and Metro Region as well as 12th in the nation. Abraham also has the best shot put in the conference and second in the Metro Region (12.96 meters). She has been selected NJAC Field Athlete of the Week three times thus far.
In addition to her track & field success, Abraham is a two-time NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention student-athlete who boasts an impressive 3.93 grade point average as an economics major with a concentration in pre-law. She has been a participant and treasurer of Stockton's Mock Trial team, and she serves as an ambassador for the Stockton University admissions office.
