Stockton Advances to NJAC Tournament Final

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (22-4) advanced to their fourth straight NJAC championship game with a tight 91-86 victory over Montclair State (22-5) on Tuesday night. DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led all scorers with a career-high 35 points in the game.
 
The first half saw Stockton jump out to an early lead and kept extending the margin to as many as 11 at 37-26 at the 7:04 mark but could not shake the feisty Red Hawks. Montclair State cut the advantage to three at 48-45 with 1:20 remaining to the half, but a foul shot by Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) and jumper by Campbell propelled the Ospreys to a 51-45 lead at the break.
 
The squads battled during the second half, with the home team running out to another double-digit lead at 76-66 with 9:18 left in regulation. The Red Hawks sprinted back on a 12-2 run in a span of just under four minutes to knot the game for the first of four times at 78-78 at the 5:35 mark.
 
With the contest tied at 84-84, Montclair State took their first lead of the night on a pair of foul shots to take a brief 86-85 edge with 2:19 to play, but that would be all the scoring for the visitors. The Ospreys sealed the game at the free throw line on a foul shots by Flanders, a pair by Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing)  to put the Ospreys back on top 87-86 with 39 seconds left, and four from the charity stripe by Campbell to give Stockton the 91-86 victory.
 
Campbell, who scored 26 of his points in the first half, went 16-17 at the line, pilfered a game-high six steals and his 35 markers tied the fourth-most points in a single game in Stockton history. Flanders added 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, which tied his career high. Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) chipped in with 15 points and a team-high six assists.
 
Steven Breeman led the Red Hawks with a solid game of 25 points, including a perfect 10-10 from the foul line, seven assists and six rebounds. Mike Jackson, Keyon Price, and Samar Abdullah all added 15 points each.
 
Stockton will travel to Glassboro to face Rowan University for the NJAC title on Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
