Duke's Incoming Recruiting Class Ranked No. 25

DURHAM – Duke's incoming men's tennis recruiting class was tabbed the No. 25 class in the nation, according to rankings released by TennisRecruiting.net on Monday.

Alexander Visser makes up the highly touted class after signing his National Letter of Intent back in November. The Westport, Conn., native will enroll in August of 2023 and join the Blue Devil squad for the 2023-24 season.

To compile the rankings, TennisRecruiting.net asked panelists to vote on the rankings. Each of the panelists submitted his/her take on the Top 25 recruiting classes. Schools received 25 points for each first-place vote, 24 points for each second-place vote, on down to 1 point for each 25th-place vote. The panelists were told not to consider incoming transfer students in their voting, and also did not consider incoming freshmen who are competing this spring.

Visser is a Blue Chip prospect who achieved a TennisRecruiting.net national ranking of No. 5 in the summer of 2022. He is listed as the No. 1 prospect from New England and the state of Connecticut. Visser also earned a career high TennisRPI national ranking of No. 2 and holds a career high UTR rating of 12.92.

He recorded his first ATP world ranking point earlier this month at the 15K Futures event in Edmond, Okla., where he advanced through qualifying and won his first-round main draw match 6-2, 6-1 over Johnathan Sorbo of Canada.

Visser's junior career is highlighted by winning the gold ball at the 2021 USTA Boys' 18s National Indoor Championship. He earned the bronze ball at the 2021 USTA Boys' 18s National Spring Championship and finished in seventh place at the USTA National Championships in Kalamazoo. In addition, Visser won the second-place playoffs in his first UTR Pro Tennis Tour event in Charleston, S.C.

"Alexander is a natural mover and ball striker who can really dictate points with his big forehand," Duke head coach Ramsey Smith said. "His serve has also developed into a weapon. Alexander made some big strides with his game this past summer, and I know he's going to keep putting in the work needed to prepare for his college tennis career at Duke."
