Dear Coppin Campus Community:
While we prepare to celebrate the start of a new academic year, in a few short weeks, I am excited to provide updates on changes that have taken place over the summer. A new academic year brings new beginnings and new opportunities for us, and we remain focused on delivering a transformative educational experience for our students. With greater focus on optimizing the student experience, I challenge us to strengthen our resolve and our commitment to providing students with the knowledge, skills, tools, and connections that can better position them to achieve their goals and shape successful futures. Below are our latest efforts to deliver on our intentional commitment to student success.

What is the Eagle Achievement Center?The Eagle Achievement Center (EAC) is an innovative, centralized hub that will enhance campus communication, collaboration, and cohesiveness to meet the academic and professional development needs of our students.
The EAC will allow us to better support the holistic development of our current students, build an inclusive experience for our diverse student population, and empower them to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. The EAC will also provide a central location for prospective students to receive information and guidance that will ease their transition into a new phase of their academic journey. With these goals in mind, the EAC will include:

- Military Student Support Services;
- International Student Support Services;
- Career and Professional Services;
- Math Lab;
- Writing Lab;
- Academic Advising Coordinators;
- Academic Outreach Coordinators;
- First Year Experience;
- Second Year Experience;
- New Student Orientation; and
- Mentoring Programs.

Faculty advisors will continue to serve as primary advisors for students who have declared their major, guiding them through major requirements, career exploration, and goal setting. Professional advisors will also be assigned to students, meeting with undergraduates throughout the semesters, and monitoring their degree progress.

To support advising, the EAC will take full advantage of the suite of tools Coppin State University has acquired, through our partnership with Anthology, to better track our student journeys, and match students with wrap-around services that support their academic development. Our innovative use of technology will allow us to be more responsive to the needs of our students and help them chart a successful course to graduation.

Where is the EAC?
Work has begun to transform the fourth floor of the Parlett L. Moore Library into the new home of the EAC. This will be an accessible and supportive environment, which integrates offices, meeting rooms, and other comfortable, vibrant spaces to foster community and encourage collaborative engagement.

Student Accessibility Services
In an effort to align our University with current developments and conversations around inclusivity, Disability Support Services Program (DSSP) will be now known as Student Accessibility Services (SAS). SAS will fall under the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, which will further strengthen our efforts to optimize the student experience and provide quality, student-centric outcomes.

New and Familiar Leadership for the College of Arts, Sciences,and Education (CASE)
After 5 years of helping guide Coppin State University as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Leontye L. Lewis, Ed.D., has transitioned to her new role as Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE). Dr. Lewis is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader and Coppin alumna who cares deeply for our institution, our faculty, and our students. She values the transformative impact education can have on the lives of those who come through our doors. I have no doubt that CASE will greatly benefit from her wisdom, passion, and expertise.

The changes I have outlined will further reinforce our strategic priorities to:
-
Become a university of choice;
-
Improve the holistic development and completion rates of our students;
-
Strengthen our brand and reputation as a leader in urban higher education;
-
Become a great university at which to work; and
-
Enhance our teaching and research excellence.
Remember, we all have a role to play in helping our students to meet the academic, personal, and professional challenges they will face this school year. We must all show up and do our best for ourselves, our colleagues and, most importantly, our students.
Stay safe, be well, and I will see you on University Day, Monday, August 15!
