Eagles 89% GSR

Coppin State Student-Athletes Record MEAC-Leading 89 Percent Graduation Success Rate

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's Department of Athletics announced today that the 2015 Student-Athlete cohort recorded an 89 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), which is currently the highest in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). This comes days after the Eagles received an award from the MEAC for accumulating a league-high 83 percent GSR, spanning the 2011-14 cohorts.

"Graduating our student-athletes is our top priority and I am proud of the commitment they display in achieving athletic and academic success at the highest level," said Coppin State University Director of Athletics Derek Carter.  "The most recent Graduation Success Rate shows their drive to be the best and is a testament to the support they receive from our coaches, faculty, and staff."

In the 2014 Cohort, women's basketball, bowling, and volleyball posted a 100 percent GSR while men's basketball accumulated a 93 percent.

The GSR was developed by the NCAA to provide graduation data that more accurately reflects academic performance of a college or university athletic program. The calculation includes the academic performance of students transferring into schools and excludes students who are academically eligible to compete but transfer away from institutions.

This spring, 26 student-athletes graduated from Coppin State University, 25 of whom recorded a GPA over 3.0. Thirteen students graduated with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, while three student-athletes graduated with a 4.0.
