New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz Athletics, Wellness and Recreation is hosting its 14th annual Hawks Golf Tournament Saturday, May 1 at Apple Greens Golf Course.
A year after unfortunately having to cancel the yearly event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual golf fundraiser is back in 2021 and the department developed a plan to ensure a fun, safe and healthy event.
"We are thrilled to bring the annual Golf Tournament back in 2021," said Hawks Interim Athletic Director
Matt Giufre. "It is one of our favorite days of the year, as we reconnect with families, alums, and Hawk supporters. We missed seeing everyone last year, and look forward to a day full of friendship, laughs and low scores. The golfers and sponsors make a positive impact on many student-athlete development opportunities, and we are grateful for that. I thank
Kyle Clancy and the members of the Golf Committee for their efforts in bringing the tournament back this year, while being mindful of the safety of all involved."
Already with ample excitement and interest, the Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Department had to cap the event to 120 golfers to keep the course running smoothly and safely. Registration is still currently open for interested golfers, but spots are quickly filling up.
The event is a four-person scramble format, which has all players teeing off and choosing the location of which shot is best. All team members will then hit their next shot from that location. Play then continues in that fashion for 18 holes. Once each golfer's 18 holes are done, they will submit their play cards and winners will be announced the following afternoon on nphawks.com and all SUNY New Paltz athletics social media channels.
Proceeds raised from the event will benefit Hawks student-athletes through enhanced student development programs such as Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society recognition, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs and Hawks Leadership Academy with a portion also going toward SUNY New Paltz athlete-led organizations, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and New Paltz Athletes of Color (NPAC).
"We are very excited to be able to host our annual golf tournament this year and are thrilled to see so many early sign-ups for the event," said Hawks men's soccer coach and Golf Tournament Coordinator
Kyle Clancy. "Having the opportunity to host an event that will give back directly to our student-athletes is massively important to the growth of our Athletic, Wellness and Recreation Department. Even though we are in unusual and unprecedented times, we are still confident we will provide a day filled with lots of fun, laughs and great moments while still meeting the guidelines required to keep it a safe event for all who are involved."
Supporters can also sign up to become a course sponsor at the event. For more information visit
