The Office of Records & Registration has published the winter 2020-21 and spring 2021 schedules of classes, which are now available at https://www.newpaltz.edu/classes/.
The information below aims to help faculty and staff prepare for the upcoming advisement period, and support students who will be registering for classes under new circumstances.
Schedule Planning
My Schedule Planner is a new system that allows students to build a course schedule in advance of registration, experiment with different options and register quickly and efficiently at their time assignment.
To support productive meetings, please encourage your advisees to make their schedule plans prior to their meeting with you. You can also view your advisees plans in My Schedule Planner by going to my.newpaltz.edu and using the “Advising” menu.
Progress report updates
Students rely on their advisors to review their registration choices and confirm that their progress reports show that they are meeting requirements in a timely manner.
To make the most of your advising sessions, we recommend that you confirm that your advisees’ progress reports are correct. If there are issues, you can submit plan or transfer credit amendments for the progress report to help improve accuracy and reduce graduation deficiencies.
We ask that advisors submit progress report amendments as soon as possible. You can also find the link by going to the Advising menu in my.newpaltz.edu and clicking “Progress Report Changes.”
Graduating Students
Advisors should work with students to ensure that their course schedule fulfills all degree requirements according to their planned graduation date.
Students who are planning to complete their degree in spring 2021 must apply for degree conferral no later than Jan. 1, 2021. They can find the degree application at my.newpaltz.edu by clicking “graduation.”
Students and advisors can check the progress of the degree application review using Starfish. Please allow up to three weeks after degree application for tracking to appear.
Major/Minor declaration moratorium
The Office of Records & Registration is placing a moratorium on declaring and changing majors/minors from Oct. 26 – Nov. 20, the most active time of registration advisement. This is meant to support departments that might otherwise be inundated with last-minute declarations, shifting enrollment needs.
Departments that do not wish to participate in this moratorium are not compelled to do so and can continue to submit Declarations of Change.
Registration
All matriculated graduate students will be able to register for spring 2021 courses beginning Nov. 9.
Registration for matriculated undergraduate students begins Nov. 16, though students will be assigned different times for registration. Students can find their registration time assignment now by going to my.newpaltz.edu and clicking “Registration” under “Resources.”
Please remind students that Records & Registration will not change a student time assignment, lift account holds or provide registration clearance.
