Stockton Downed by Rowan 61-53

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-1, 0-1 NJAC) suffered their first defeat of the season as Rowan University (2-2, 1-0 NJAC) took a 61-53 decision on Tuesday night in the NJAC opener for both squads. Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.)  posted her third straight double-double with 10 points and a career-high-tying 14 rebounds to lead the Ospreys.

Stockton got off to a slow start, tallying just five points in the first period as the Profs ran out to an 11-5 margin after one frame. The visitors were able to score five markers from the foul line to none for Stockton to forge the lead in the period.

The Ospreys rebounded in the second quarter, tallying 15 points but Rowan was able to stretch the advantage with 9-0 run to start the frame to run out to a 20-5 lead before Stockton answered. A pair of foul shots by Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) briefly slowed the rally but the Profs were able to take a 38-20 lead at the break.

Stockton came out of the break shooting 8-17 (47.6%) and outscored the visitors 20-14 in the third period. Along the way, the Ospreys briefly made it a one-possession game at 51-48 on two free throws by Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack).

That was as close as the Ospreys would come as Rowan stretched the margin to 48-40 after three quarters and stayed ahead by at least eight in the fourth period to deal Stockton the 61-53 defeat.

Morrone led all scorers with 14 points followed by 10 each from Jennings and LaRosa. Morrone also topped all players with four steals. Dulude chipped in with an efficient seven points and seven rebounds with two assists.

Rowan was led by Eliana Santana with 11 points and Nicole Mallard with 10 markers. Ayanna Johnson and Santana each pulled down eight boards.

Stockton will play the second of three consecutive home games, when the Ospreys will face Gallaudet University on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Stockton Sports Center.
