Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (3-1, 0-1 NJAC) opened conference play with a 109-98 setback to Rowan University (2-2, 1-0 NJAC) in a game that was the Ospreys' home opener and first defeat of the season.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) poured in a game-high 29 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Campbell shot 7-11 (63.6%) from three-point range.
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) went 6-10 (60%) from beyond the arc and tallied 23 points.
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) also hit double figures with 17 counters while
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) totaled seven points, six rebounds and a game-high seven assists. The Profs used their size advantage to outrebound Stockton 52-42.
Stockton's only leads of the game came at 2-1 and 7-6. The Ospreys trailed by as much as 11 in the first half and faced a 53-43 deficit at the break. Campbell carried the offense with 15 first-half points followed by Flanders with nine markers.
Stockton fell behind 67-50 with 16 minutes to play before mounting a charge. Anguelov scored eight points during an 18-7 run that got the Ospreys within 74-68. Stockton cut the margin to six again on three more occasions before Rowan pulled away, extending the gap back to 15 on the way to downing the Ospreys 109-98.
Rowan shot 56.8% (21-37) from the floor in the second half. The Ospreys gave themselves a chance by hitting 10-19 (52.6%) from three-point range in the second stanza, but they could not overcome their double-digit deficit.
Ja'Zere Noel paced the Profs with 26 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Andrew Seager added 10 points and 10 boards.
Stockton will host Widener University in a non-conference game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
