Stockton Rallies for 4-3 Overtime Victory over FDU-Florham

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (7-4) made a stirring comeback from a 3-1 deficit to top FDU-Florham (7-6) 4-3 in overtime. Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph), who was flying all over the field all night, scored two goals.

Senior Gracee Roberts (Monroeville/Woodstown) came off bench in overtime and scored the game-winner on a penalty stroke for her first career goal. Freshman Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) fired a goal for the second straight game.

After a scoreless first quarter, FDU's Haleigh Flukey sandwiched a pair of goals around Palumbo's tally, which came on a rebound and was her fifth of the year, for a 2-1 count. The Devils struck just 40 seconds into the third quarter as Lauren Nawrotzki found the net to make it a 3-1 game.

Stockton then went on the attack with five penalty corners and four shots in a five-minute span. The Ospreys finally cashed in as Morganti corralled a loose ball and scored her first of the game to trim the deficit to one at 3-2.

The margin carried over into the fourth quarter until Morganti potted her second marker of the night as she snagged a hard pass from Kelsey Andrus (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) and buried her 13th goal of the season to tie the game 3-3 with 9:18 remaining in regulation.

Stockton earned four penalty corners and attempted two shots in the last three minutes of regulation but could not convert. The Ospreys then survived a penalty corner by FDU-Florham with just two seconds left, and the game went to overtime.

After one save by each goalie early in OT, Palumbo stickhandled into the arc and was tripped from behind, resulting in a penalty stroke for the Ospreys. Roberts entered the game and converted the stroke for the game-winner and her first career goal to complete Stockton's comeback for the 4-3 triumph.

Stockton goaltender Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) earned the win with five saves while Megan March also finished with five stops for FDU-Florham.

Up next, the Ospreys will begin a stretch of three straight conference games with a matchup at William Paterson on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
