Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University senior
Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) was selected as a
USILA Division III Scholar All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Ellis, a Biology major at Stockton who is slated to graduate next spring, was one of 79 players chosen for the recognition.
Nominees must be seniors with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 who have acted in a manner that brought credit to themselves, their institutions and college lacrosse. Players also must be an All-American, member of a North/South team or an outstanding player in their league. Nominations are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the USILA Scholar All-America committee.
Ellis joined 2019 honorees
Chris Holleritter and
Colin Wharton as the only three USILA Scholar All-Americans in the history of the Stockton men's lacrosse program. The midfielder helped the Ospreys to a 5-1 record in 2020 with 14 goals and four assists for 18 points before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ellis ranked second on the team in shots on goal (29) plus third in goals and shots (43) during the abbreviated season. He scored a season-high four goals in a 14-12 win over Elizabethtown and potted three goals apiece in three other games during the spring. Ellis was selected Maverik DIII Media All-American by Inside Lacrosse and named to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Ellis transferred to Stockton after spending his freshman year at Salisbury, where he was a member of the Sea Gulls' 2016 national championship team. He totaled 67 goals and 38 assists for 105 points in 43 games during his three seasons at Stockton. Ellis was a CSAC Second Team selection in 2019.
Due to COVID-19, the NCAA restored a year of eligibility to all Spring 2020 student-athletes whose seasons were canceled, making Ellis eligible to play for Stockton again next year if he so chooses.
