Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University women's lacrosse team and five of its student-athletes qualified for academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Ospreys earned acknowledgement as an
IWLCA Academic Honor Squad by registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the 2021-22 academic year.
Stockton was one of 151 NCAA Division III teams to achieve IWLCA Academic Honor Squad status and one of five NJAC schools on the list, joining Rowan, The College of New Jersey, Kean, and Montclair State. The Ospreys went 9-8 this spring, recording their eighth winning season in the nine-year history of the program.
Individually, seniors
Allie Bremer (Oakland/Indian Hills) and
Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) along with juniors
Kerstin Axe (Milmont Park, Pa./Ridley)
Holly Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) and
Mary McLaughlin (Somers Point/Mainland) qualified for the
IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
The Osprey teammates were among 1,099 student-athletes from Division III institutions. Student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher to qualify.
Pascrell, majoring in Health Science, finished up her career in fine fashion as she was named to the IWLCA Boardwalk Region First Team and NJAC First Team this spring. The senior finished second in the NJAC in goals (3.12 gpg), third in points (3.76 ppg) and sixth in ground balls (2.88/game) and draw controls per game (4.25/game).
Pascrell set school records with 53 goals and 74 draw controls, led the team with 64 points and was second on the squad with 49 ground balls. She ended her career as the program leader in goals (133), points (163) and draw controls (130), while ranking second in ground balls (121) and fourth in caused turnovers (61). Pascrell was an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention qualifier this year.
Fellow senior Bremer, an Exercise Science major, set career-highs with 23 goals and 26 points this season. She scored a career-high five goals against Montclair State on April 22 and earned an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention nod.
Axe started all 17 games on defense in her first season at Stockton. She scooped 20 ground balls on the season and scored her first career goal vs. Rutgers-Camden on April 12. The junior was an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention selection, majoring in Marine Science.
Yannacone played in all 17 games, starting all but one. The junior tied for fifth in the NJAC in assists (1.24 apg). Yannacone tied her career high with four goals against Colorado College on April 10 and set a career high with six points (3 G, 3 A) versus Montclair State on April 22. Majoring in Social Work, she also was an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention qualifier.
McLaughlin, a Health Science major, started all 14 games in which she appeared on defense in her first season at Stockton. She scooped 14 ground balls and added 10 caused turnovers. McLaughlin scored the first two goals of her career vs. Rowan on April 26. The junior was as an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention player this year.
