BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Kern County has been added back to Governor Gavin Newsom's watch list Saturday, which was confirmed by Kern Public Health.
"We need to fail the state's metric for 3 consecutive days to be placed on the list and then 3 days later, the governor's new order would apply," said Michelle Corson, spokeswoman for the Kern County Public Health Department.
After the three days, if still on the list, the county will go on the state's monitoring list on the fourth day.
Kern County totaled 495 cases Saturday, reaching a county-high in a single day. Health officials confirm that this is due to a backlog of coronavirus tests.
Places of worship, gyms, personal care services, hair and nail salons and all non-critical sectors will not be able to operate unless the businesses are modified to operate outside or by curbside pickup, according to the order.
Saturday is the first day Kern County is on the watch list.
