Galloway, N.J. – Two Stockton University baseball players were selected for All-Region honors from the
American Baseball Coaches Association for the 2022 season. Sophomore
Sam Nieves (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) and freshman
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) was voted to the ABCA/Rawlings Region 4 Third Team.
Nieves, a utility player who saw action at multiple positions, and Nitti, the Ospreys' third baseman, were two of the top offensive players leading a young nucleus for a Stockton team that won 16 games. The pair became Stockton's first ABCA All-Region players since 2011 and earned the program's ninth and 10th All-Region honors.
Nitti was the only Stockton player to start all 40 games during his outstanding rookie year. The freshman broke the 12-year-old school record for hits in a season with 66 hits and led the team with a .379 batting average. Nitti also tied for the team lead in RBI (28), finished second on the Ospreys in doubles (10) and scored 24 runs.
Nitti finished seventh in the NJAC in hits and topped Stockton with 21 multi hit games, recording at least two safeties in more than half of his games played. He also contributed six stolen bases, one triple and one home run. Nitti was selected NJAC Rookie of the Week once during the season.
Nieves added the ABCA/Rawlings Region 4 Third Team accolade to an NJAC First Team nod this spring. He batted .328 with team highs in slugging percentage (.569), OPS (.992) and doubles (11) while playing a total 31 games broken down into 12 contests at designated hitter, 10 at catcher and nine at second base.
Nieves finished second on the team in home runs (3) plus tied for second in on-base percentage (.423), runs (27) and walks (19) to go with 38 hits, 21 RBI and nine stolen bases. The sophomore tied for sixth in the NJAC in triples and ranked 10th in the conference in slugging percentage.
