Roundtable Discussion: Effective Translation of Alzheimer’s Disease Research

Start Time: November 3, 2015

On November 3, 2015, AFAR organized a roundtable discussion, “Effective Translation of Alzheimer’s Disease Research” in Marina del Rey, California. Supported by The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation and the Santa Barbara Foundation, the day-long program brought together philanthropic leadership, policy makers, and scientific and medical experts in Alzheimer’s disease and aging research.

Participants, including AFAR-supported Alzheimer’s experts, Cynthia Carlsson, M.D. (2005 Beeson Scholar), Laura Dugan, M.D. (1998 Beeson Scholar) and Jason Hinman, M.D., Ph.D.,,(2015 New Investigator Award in Alzheimer’s Disease recipient), discussed the social and economic impact of Alzheimer’s disease, the current landscape, challenges, and gaps in translating basic Alzheimer’s disease research to effective therapies.

Together, participants reviewed strategies for a unified approach to address these challenges and identified ways in which private philanthropy can make significant and meaningful contributions for effective translation of basic discoveries to effective therapies for Alzheimer’s disease.

A report on the day’s findings will be made available.
