Stockton Wins Thriller in Overtime 1-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-2) picked up their third straight win as the Ospreys downed Wesley College (9-6) by a 1-0 score on Tuesday night. Kassidy Wentzell (Hammonton/St. Joe's) scored just 1:27 into the extra frame to give Stockton the victory.

The game was played in some wet weather but did not deter the teams from the play. The squads got off one shot on net each during the first period, but could not score. Corinn Guilford (Buena/St. Joe's) had a shot stopped in the second quarter and was denied, as the teams went to the break in a scoreless tie.

The visitors had two attempts during the final 30 minutes of regulation, but Osprey goalkeeper Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) was up to the task of keeping the Wolverines off the board. Her point blank save with 1:49 remaining in regulation kept the Ospreys in the game.

Stockton wasted no time in ending the contest in the overtime period. Wentzell dribbled down the left side, crossed to the middle in front of the net, and fired her fourth goal of the season into the low left side for the game winner.

Gilligan made three saves in extending her career shutout record to 12. The whitewash also gave Gilligan the single season record of six shutouts at Stockton in a season.

Bridget Wood made two saves for the Wolverines, with Kaila Hindt firing two of the three shots on net for Wesley.

Stockton will travel to Mahwah, NJ for their next game, when they will face Ramapo on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
