Tulane University Information Technology

Dear Tulane NVivo Users,

As part of our ongoing commitment to optimizing resources, we regret to inform you of significant changes regarding our license agreement with NVivo, Tulane's software solution for qualitative data analysis. The School of Liberal Arts has decided to conclude its sponsorship of the NVivo license due to declining usage and other considerations. Consequently, access to NVivo will terminate on September 1, 2025.

Required Actions Before September 1, 2025:

1. Export Your Projects: To ensure you retain access to your qualitative data, please export your NVivo projects in the REFI-QDA (.QDPX) file format. This format is open-source and enables you to migrate your work to alternative qualitative data analysis software.

  • For guidance on exporting your projects, visit Export a QDPX file from NVivo.
  • Learn more about the QDPX format and compatible software at QPDX Format Information.

2. Explore Alternative Software: We recommend considering other qualitative data analysis tools. Here are some alternatives:

Premium:

  • ATLAS.ti
  • Dedoose
  • MAXQDA
  • Quirkos

Opensource / Free:

  • BORIS
  • QualCoder
  • RDQA
  • Taguette

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate new users under the Tulane NVivo license at this time. However, you may continue to use NVivo under the current license until the termination date. After September 1, 2025, your access to NVivo will be revoked.

We understand that this change may be challenging, and we are here to support you through this transition. If you require assistance with project migration or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Tulane Innovative Learning Center.

Thank you for your understanding and continued dedication to research and education at Tulane.

Sincerely,
Information Technology
