The Colorado College cross country teams once again proved they can achieve excellence in the classroom as well as on the course.
Â
After the men's and women's teams won the SCAC Championship for the third consecutive season last fall, each was named a Division III All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2023 season.
Â
The men's team, which won its fifth straight SCAC team title, produced a grade-point average of 3.81, the highest among the 196 Division III men's teams that were selected.
Meanwhile, the women's squad, which won its fourth conference title in the last five years, posted a 3.86 GPA, the fifth-highest among the 234 Division III women's teams on the list.
Â
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
In addition, nine Tigers were named all-academic athletes by the organization. Senior
Kendall Accetta, junior
Elliot Singer and sophomores
Ella Fullerton, Alison Mueller-Hickler and
Sky Theodosopoulos were honored from the women's team, while seniors
James Settles,
Devlin Swanson and
Brett Kitazono, and freshman
Will Shuflit were named from the men's program.
Â
In order to qualify for all-academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.Â
"The teams worked extremely hard to produce one of the most successful seasons in program history last fall," head coach
Alex Nichols said. "It is great to see the student-athletes applying that same level of commitment to their work in the classroom. This is an amazing accomplishment that will set the standard for future Colorado College cross country teams."
