Adventure 1 - iNaturalist & The VT Atlas of Life (4/1/20)
Join us for an overview and a "how-to" of iNaturalist.Org and the VT Atlas of Life project from Emily Anderson, outreach coordinator at the VT Center of Ecostudies. Both of these resources are terrific starting points for exploring the natural world in our local communities and for engaging in some simple citizen science. Adventure 2 - Into The Garden: Taking Care of Our Community’s Basic Needs (4/8/20)
Join us to explore opportunities to take eLearning outside, encouraging students to learn from and in nature. This week will focus on getting into the garden and making connections to K-12 curriculum. Our featured presenter is Beth Roy, Food & Farm Manager at Vital Communities. Beth has a wealth of knowledge and experience and has been working with schools to develop strong Farm to Schools and gardening programming. Our aim is to make this simple, fun, and meaningful for you and your students. We’ll start the webinar with an overview and conversation and then open it up for questions and sharing. Adventure 3 - Exploring Nature Through Art (4/29/20)
Our guest presenter will be Lisa Kaija, a WCSU art teacher and staff member of Artistree. We’ll be sharing lots of ideas for art projects students can do outdoors, helping students to seek beauty and wonder, and providing a creative outlet for expressing themselves during these complex times. Adventure 4 - Exploring Nature Through Literacy (5/13/20)
Join us to explore opportunities to take eLearning outside, encouraging students to learn from and in nature. Our suite of guest presenters includes Rob Hanson and Allison Greene, 5th and 6th grade teachers at Woodstock Elementary School; Audrey Richardson and Lauren Justice of the Woodstock Union High School English department; and Lisa Kaija, a WCSU art educator. We’ll dive into how you might frame literacy outdoors, using power spots and sound mapping to focus and inspire students, one teacher’s take on a high school Transcendentalism unit; and a few beautiful examples of handmade nature journals.
