Join us for this series on “Intersectionality” as we examine all the ways we intersect with each other and what keeps us apart. Within these intersections we will see different types of systemic oppression or privilege that a person may experience. Because of these various identities, each person will view the world differently.

Come Join Laura Cheng PhD and Nicole Porter EdD for a journey that will bring you to a place where you learn to and can help others build empathy and appreciation between people with different experiences, backgrounds, and views. Amikaeyla Gaston, Special Guest Speaker and other guests will share their understanding and experiences.

Session 1: An Overview of Intersectionality: Date: 10/05/22
This session will introduce you to the meaning of Intersectionality. Describe why it matters and explain how it links to existing equity, and anti-bias /anti-racism training.

Session 2: Core in Your Ecology (Micro and Macro): Date: 10/19/22
In session 2 we will explore and discuss the connection of race, ethnicity, class, gender, age, and disability with young children in our programs.

Session 3: Reflection: Date: 11/09/22
In session 3, we will signify how sessions 1 and 2 impact our work with young children and families in your care. How “Intersectionality” presents a unique challenge for us as we attempt to find solutions to our societal issues. (Panel will share their experiences)

Optional Session: Community of Practice: Date: 11/30/22
Brainstorming on how to incorporate Intersectionality into Allyships and strategies in teaching practice.

• Training Commitment is important. Be present & engaged. Make mindfulness a practice.
• Participants must register for the training; trainers will do roll calls.
• Full Commitment to training series. No Partial Professional Development hours are given. Those who attend the optional session will earn additional hours.
• Only ELS & Pre-ELS educators and SFQC coaches may participate.
