Watch Arcade Fire’s Win Butler Sing David Bowie’s ‘Fame’ at All-Star Jam
Arcade Fire‘s Win Butler, Miguel, Hall & Oates‘ John Oates, Mumford & Sons, Skrillex, Mac Miller, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and more were on hand at the inaugural Okeechobee Festival Saturday for the fest’s all-star PoWoW! In this pro-shot video from the superjam, Butler reunites with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band as well as Miguel and Oates for a funky take on David Bowie‘s “Fame.” Toward the end of the performance, Butler looks up and says, “Hi David,” a nod to the rock legend.
Butler and the brass band previously paid tribute to Bowie with a second line parade in New Orleans the weekend after Bowie’s January 10th death, and Butler also penned a remembrance of the “true artist” who featured on Arcade Fire‘s “Reflektor.”
At the Okeechobee Fest, the Montreal-based Butler, who also sang Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” during the PoWoW!, jokingly wore a handmade shirt that said “Trump 2016” and told the Florida festivalgoers, “If you guys wanna move to Canada when Trump gets elected, we’ll welcome you with open arms,” Arcade Fire Tube reports.
“David fuckin’ Bowie is alive,” Butler added after the performance. “There’s no one that lives and touches that many people that doesn’t live forever. He’s going to live forever.”
The Powow! also featured star-studded covers of songs by Led Zeppelin (“Kashmir”), Marvin Gaye (“Inner City Blues”), the Clash (“Rock the Casbah”) and the Rolling Stones (“Sympathy for the Devil”) as well as Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough.” Acclaimed jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, the Meters’ rhythm section of George Porter Jr. and Zigaboo Modeliste and members of Soulive also took part in the superjam.
