Purpose and Mission

Purpose:
The Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners was created in 1921 to safeguard life, health and property and to promote the public welfare through the establishment of standards and regulation of the practice of architecture, engineering and landscape architecture and the use of the title "registered interior designer" within the State of Tennessee.  Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 62, Chapter 2, establishes the registration requirements for architects, engineers, landscape architects and interior designers and describes the size and scope of projects for which a registrant is needed. To improve the level of professional conduct and to establish a standard of care, the Board enacted the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Mission:
The mission of the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners is to protect the public health, safety and welfare through the regulation of architecture, engineering, landscape architecture and interior design, by means of evaluation, education, examination, licensure and disciplinary action; and to communicate with its registrants and the public regarding the laws and standards of the professions.
