The Introduction in Paths to Recovery—Al-Anon’s Steps, Traditions, and Concepts (B-24) describes the criticality of all three Legacies—as represented by the Al-Anon logo—in supporting Al-Anon members worldwide to live joyful, serene lives: “All three sides are necessary for the triangle to remain a triangle, just as a three-legged stool needs all three legs in order to stand.” Similarly, at the World Service Office, three Departments are vital to achieving Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc.’s (AFG, Inc.) Mission to help the friends and families of alcoholics connect and support each other through meetings, information, and shared experiences.

And … the Department most directly responsible for interacting with members and groups within the WSC Structure and groups and structures across the globe is looking for a new Director of Programs beginning September 2021. The Director of Programs position is essential to ensuring our Core Value— Spiritually based: adhering to our Legacies—is achieved within the WSO and encouraged and supported throughout the fellowship. Roles and responsibilities include development, participation, and execution of Strategic Plan Strategies; leadership of Department Staff and programs including literature, group and international services, and Conference; and application of spiritual principles and policies in procedures and communications.

To fill this role, we are seeking an individual who has been an active member of Al-Anon for at least the last seven to ten years and has served above the group level. We are excited to work with someone who is passionate about managing, developing, and motivating teams and individuals. We are eager to learn from the successful candidate’s professional and leadership knowledge and experience. And we are ready to collaborate with a member who can inspire Staff and Volunteer teams to apply the Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Service in the execution of AFG, Inc.’s Strategic Plan.

Are you that member? If you believe you might be—even if you have only an inkling—we encourage you to talk to your Sponsor and your Higher Power and then, if you feel called, to simply do the footwork and trust the outcome. Thank you in advance for considering this opportunity. We gratefully anticipate receiving and reviewing your cover letter and professional résumé at HumanRes@al-anon.org. Please include your service experience as part of your cover letter. Deadline to submit résumés is 3/19/21.
