Gadi Fellowships Call for Applications is now open
The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) in partnership with the University of Sydney is currently offering University of Sydney academics and postgraduate students an opportunity to apply for a limited number of AIATSIS based Fellowships to support research and study and build knowledge and understanding of the AIATSIS collection. The Visiting Fellowships are part of the AIATSIS Yumalundi Visitor Program, and are called the Gadi Fellowships. ‘Yumalundi’ means ‘welcome’ in the language of the Ngunnawal of the Canberra region on whose Country AIATSIS is built.
The Gadi Fellowship is named to honour the Gadigal, on whose Country the main Camperdown campus of The University of Sydney is built. Gadi is the word for grass tree or Xanthorrhoea in the language of the Gadigal. It is a befitting name for a program that supports University of Sydney Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholars, students and community to come to Canberra to use and grow the AIATSIS collection and engage with our researchers and staff.
The Gadi Fellowships are targeted specifically to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and students from the University of Sydney to come to AIATSIS and complete a project based on the AIATSIS collection.
Fellowships may support an existing research program or new project in any field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research.
Projects may involve accessing the collection generally; however projects that focus on a particular collection or group of items are strongly encouraged. AIATSIS collections staff can assist you identify items within the AIATSIS collection of relevance to your area of research, and provide guidance on timeframes for access to material should you be successful.
