WHAT IS TEAM KOZERA?

We are part of a network of friends and families helping raise funds in support of the LLS. Team Kozera was built around our friend, Brian Kozera. Brian is a local Norristown PA Police Officer, who after completing his first IRONMAN Marathon in 2015 was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (lymphocyte-depleted, the rarest of the Hodgkin’s diseases). Brian is a graduate of Wissahickon High School and received his Masters Degree at St Joseph’s University. He is a husband and father to three incredible beautiful girls.

After college, Brian was also a Tournament Director for Riverchasers Poker Tour in the Montgomery/Bucks County areas in 2005/2006. He only stopped hosting events as he pursued his career as a public servant in the Police Academy.

His Cancer diagnosis took his family, and our network by complete surprise. It was the last thing we expected to hear from a person in such great shape but as we all know, this is a disease that does not discriminate and can effect anyone at any time.

During his treatment process, Brian’s will and strength to “Persevere and Prevail” (our tagline for this fight) was visible even in the Cancer treatment center. Brian refused to slow down and would still get up and run or exercise to the disbelief of the staff.

Now six years after this ordeal, Brian is Cancer free, has completed multiple IRONMAN events all over the world, and has one final goal in mind… Compete in KONA.

What is KONA?

KONA is the IRONMAN World Championship event hosted in Kona, Hawaii. It is a very exclusive annual event held for top IRONMAN athletes in the world. KONA was cancelled in 2020 for the first time ever due to Covid19 pandemic, but it WILL BE HOSTED in 2021 this October.

The LLS / KONA / TEAM Kozera Connection

Recently featured on Good Morning America, the LLS has nominated two athletes in the USA this year to compete in KONA on behalf of the LLS. Of all the nominees in the nation for this prestigious honor, Brian is one of the chosen athletes. As part of this journey, our network will be helping TEAM KOZERA raise funds to benefit the LLS in their search for better treatments and ultimately, the Cure for Cancer.
