Global Initiatives Staff Present at NAFSA Conference

Two Global Initiatives staff members presented at the recent NAFSA Conference, held May 30-June 2 in Washington, DC. 

Founded in 1948, NAFSA: Association of International Educators is a leading global voice for international education and exchange. Coinciding with NAFSA’s 75th anniversary, the annual conference and expo brought together our global community to reflect, celebrate, inspire, and create. The theme for the 2023 conference was "Inspiring an inclusive future." 

Higher Education Internationalization in India

Director of global partnerships Karla Guinigundo served as chair and presenter for "Higher Education Internationalization in India: Charting a Path Forward." Building off outcomes of the 2022 U.S.-India Higher Education Collaboration and Internationalization program funded by the U.S. Mission to India, the session analyzed challenges and opportunities for higher education internationalization in the Indian context, emphasizing the changing environment for partnerships between India and the United States. Guinigundo was joined by presenters Gunjan Sanjeev, PhD (Amity University, India); Carly Van Orman, JD (U.S. Department Of State); and Barani Gunatharan, MBA.,M.Phil.,PhD (Bharathiar University, TN, India).

Designing and Implementing Credentialing Programs

Program Coordinator Alicia Castillo Shrestha served as chair and presenter for "Comprehensive Internationalization: Experiences from Designing and Implementing Credentialing Programs." In this session, three institutions shared lessons learned from their experiences. Participants learned how credentialing programs contribute to development of intercultural skills, and engage in exercises to generate ideas for application on their campuses. Shrestha was joined by Della Burke (ITESO, The Jesuit University Of Guadalajara) and Dilnoza Khasilova, PhD (University Of Wyoming).
