After working with Tony Hoffer (Air, Phoenix, M83) and signing to Last Gang Records, Los Angeles mainstays Dear Boy have completed work on their debut album. For now, though, they’re sharing the glinting new single “(On My) Mind,” which is indebted to romantic 80s synth-pop and yearning 90s Brit-pop. It’s like a robust camera flash—bright and bursting new wave.

“‘(On My) Mind’ is about distance and the complexities of being in love and apart,” vocalist Ben Grey says of the track. “Missing someone is a whole other level of consciousness. Extreme joy and pain. A swirl of memory, dream, and fantasy. But these are things that connect us to the people that we love and they’re precious. Good and bad.”

Their forthcoming album is a follow-up to 2019’s EP The Strawberry and will feature contributions from Day Wave, Hazel English, Rogue Wave, AFI, and Ian Hultquist of Passion Pit.
