Parting with loved ones, whether due to a breakup, geographical distance, or ultimately death, is probably the trickiest part of this whole life thing we have to go through. When to say goodbye? Is it better not to say goodbye? Can you still love after you’ve said goodbye? LA indie rock band, Dear Boy, exhume this chest of conundrums that we generally try not to think about on “Forever Sometimes”, the title track of their upcoming debut album.

“The album, and honestly the band itself is a study in goodbyes,” says member Ben Gray. Their melodic indie rock has seen them become a driving force in LA’s underground music scene, drawing primarily on late 70s/early 80s post-punk and early 90s britpop, laced with Dear Boy’s contemporary perspective, and powered by evocative, wistful lyrics.

It’s an auspicious concoction, and “Forever Sometimes” sees Dear Boy start as they mean to go on in their quest for a triumphant debut record, which has been long anticipated since their first EP in 2013. With recent festival appearances at Colombia’s Estéreo Picnic and Mexico’s Pa’l Norte, the band of best friends have certainly made their summer count, and with Forever Sometimes’s September release sitting firmly on the horizon, 2022 looks set only to get brighter.
