The future of cash: an update

Nkr100 notes
The Norwegian krone has seen three years of negative growth

According to the recent survey of Central Banking’s Editorial Advisory Board, 17% of respondents said cash as it is used today will disappear within 10 years. A further 22% gave it an additional 10 and 20 years’ lifetime respectively. However, 39% expected that cash will never disappear.

Only time will show which respondent group is right in its prophesy. What we can confirm today, however, is that we are at the starting point of what many see as a decisive decade for the payments landscape.
