Summer Spotlight: Kiara Tan, Williams Women's Track & Field

Kiara Tan knew she wanted to continue developing as an athlete in college, but she was not going to compromise her academic goals in order to achieve her ambitions on the track.

A member of the 2019 Eph squad that won the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championship and a multiple-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree in the 60-meters (2019, 2020, 2022), 200-meters (2022), and long jump (2022), Tan has had a considerable impact on the success of her team. At recent NESCAC and regional championships, she finished first in the indoor 60-meter and second in the outdoor 100-meter events. Tan has set school records in the 100-meters (11.97) and 60-meters (7.68).

Eph Head Coach Nate Hoey hails Tan as a leader whose impact goes far beyond the times, places, and points she earns for the Ephs: "Kiara always looks out for her teammates, showing how much she cares in consistent interactions by checking in on others."

It's these relationships that Tan cherishes most: Seeing teammates and classmates outside of the track, her classes as a biology major, or doing research in the lab with her favorite Williams professor, Noah Sandstrom.

Tan is currently working at Boston Children's Hospital doing research on concussions and traumatic brain injuries. After graduating, Tan plans to continue doing neuroscience research before attending medical school. Hoey knows that Tan will continue her successes, "Kiara understands that no one can do it alone and relationships and connections with teammates are the most important," stated Hoey.
