APPROPRIATIONS UPDATE
The House passed its Interior-Environment bill on Wednesday evening. Plans to pass three other bills were scrapped following internal Republican disagreements. The House has suspended consideration of remaining FY 2025 appropriations bills, canceling votes for the week of July 29 and starting the August recess a week early.
Over in the Senate, the Commerce-Justice-Science, Interior-Environment, State-Foreign Operations, and Transportation-HUD bills were all advanced out of committee. Remaining bills, including Energy-Water, Defense, Labor-HHS-Education, Homeland Security, and Financial Services, are expected to be taken up next week before the Senate adjourns through Labor Day.
When Congress reconvenes on September 9, it will have three weeks to determine the next steps for FY 2025 funding, likely requiring a continuing resolution to maintain government funding through the November elections.
