Dear KAUST community,

Both the CMT and the EOC established for the current crisis have been very active in the last 24 hours and we feel it is important to update you on the latest developments.

New Curfew time from 3:00 p.m.

You must stay at home from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the next day, in line with similar directives put in place in the Kingdom. Please consider this curfew in place until further notice.

It is vital that KAUST residents strictly observe this curfew, which is aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, by staying home.

Community members are allowed to be outside during the curfew hours to:

  • Access Tamimi stores for shopping – the main Tamimi store and the Discovery Square Tamimi Express are open until 2:00 a.m.
  • Access Saud Pharmacy in Discovery Square
  • Attend KAUST Health
  • Collect pre-ordered takeaway meals from restaurants or the diner

Anyone found traveling around for any other reason will be issued with a violation and may be fined up to 10,000 SAR in line with KSA government direction. We want to reiterate, this is for your protection and the protection of all community members and the frontline staff who are working hard to keep us safe.

Once again we’d like to thank you for your cooperation and ongoing adherence to directives, they have been designed to keep you safe and to help manage this crisis.

  1. Greetings and good day sir,
I am currently working at the Central Utilities Plant and our coverage of operation is 24/7, we (to include our service providers NESMA trading), normally have to respond community complaints e.g. low water pressure , leak somewhere with in the network, power issues etc. in addition, our maintenance provider is also doing normal network patrols. We would like to seek enlightenment regarding this directive so we can provide our team with guidance. And we will continue to serve and provide services to our KAUST community with out compromising the the objective of this new directive. Thank you and KEEP safe.

  2. Dear Jasper, Please speak to your management to arrange relevant passes for people who need to move during curfew, that are not covered by exceptions above. Thank you, the Coronavirus Taskforce

  3. Seriously what is the point ? The curfew was extended in Jeddah, so what tou are doing is NOT in line with the government regulation and just arbitrary

    • There isnt any delivery service as Jeddah has for supermarkets, pharmacies etc. If they say you cant leave for whatever reason from 3pm-6am then people wouldnt be able to get essentials for people who need them, such as medications or essentials from tamimi. If you think that 6am-3pm is enough to get essentials, you would cause such high traffic and very long waiting hours. I think this is fair, again they are saying you may leave during curfew hours only for essentials. At the same time, the taskforce team are doing there best in keeping us safe.

    • Our Curfew time is in line with the government curfew. Our Essential Personnel travel is in line with government guidance, utilities, medical staff, etc.

  4. Dear Coronavirus Taskforce, just a question about the details: Are backyards considered as home? In other words, would it be a violation of the curfew to go out of the house to the backyard (certainly belonging to the same unit) after 3pm? For children, in particular for the schoolchildred, who are busy in the morning, it would be a good oportunity to see the sun! It would definitely contribute to the mental health. Staying inside a building after 7pm was OK, but 3pm is quite early… (Excuse me for this question but 10000 SAR is quite a sum!) Have a nice day!
