Indigo plant processor and distributor Stony Creek Colors, Inc. announced Monday that it will open a new facility in Springfield, resulting in a $7.2 million investment over the next five years and the creation of 50 new jobs for Robertson County residents, according to a media release from Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd.

Stony Creek Colors will be located in the Conwood Building in Springfield.

An emerging U.S. manufacturer of bio-based dyes for the textile industry, Stony Creek Colors is expanding the production of their flagship product, natural indigo for denim and other clothing items, the release said.

Company officials plan to open their new facility this summer in about 10,000 square feet of space at the old Conwood facility, on Central Avenue in Springfield, according to Robertson County Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Economic Development Officer Margot Fosnes.

Stony Creek Colors contracts with Middle Tennessee farmers, several of which reside in Robertson County, for the indigo supply it uses in production, officials noted.

“We welcome Stony Creek Colors to Springfield and we are fortunate that such a unique company has chosen to locate a new facility in Tennessee,” Boyd said in the release. “More than 1,400 Tennesseans are employed in the synthetic dye and pigment manufacturing industry and it is great news that Stony Creek Colors will be adding these valuable jobs to the industry and Team Tennessee.”

Representatives from Stony Creek Colors first began entering discussions with Robertson County leaders about opening a Springfield facility last fall, Fosnes said.
