#job: Professorship in Advanced Wood Protection Systems The University of British Columbia's Faculty of Forestry offers a Professorship (all three ranks, tenure-track or tenured) in Advanced Wood Protection Systems within the Department of Wood Science. 🌲 Did you know over 2 billion tonnes of wood were harvested to make fuel in 2019 alone? That's 30% more than previous estimates. Data like this was made available through a predictive model designed by researchers from FAO, with support from partners like SEI's Rob Bailis. Global counts of wood fuel removals and charcoal production are historically imprecise and incomplete. Using information and statistical developments from the last 20 years, this team of researchers produced country-level annual estimates of wood fuel harvesting and charcoal production, along with aggregated regional and global projections, for this new article in Nature Communications. Now, FAO can produce more accurate information that can inform how the true scope of how wood fuel production affects land cover and climate change. These estimates are also foundational to measuring progress on national and global goals on deforestation, energy access and carbon emission reduction.
