About

The University of Utah's annual Black History Month celebration is a tapestry of events hosted across campus in recognition and celebration of Black history and culture. This year, the theme, which is chosen by the organization that founded Black History Month, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASAALH), is "African Americans and Labor." You can read more about this year's theme and past themes here. All are welcome to join us in celebrating Black History Month 2025!

BHM Library Pop-Up

Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Location: Marriott Library Level 2 Lobby

Description: Dive into Black History Month at the Marriott Library! Books and DVDs related to Black History will be available for students to peruse and check out. Also, Special Collections will have some materials from the archives on display.

Black Joy

Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Location: Union Collegiate

Description:UCC is thrilled to host "Black Joy," an event dedicated to celebrating culture and community. Join us for an uplifting program featuring a presentation by Lex and Kandis, exploring the history of Black joy and its connection to mental health. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to learn a fun line dance with us! See you there!

The Power of the Divine Nine

Time: 6:00-8:00 PM

Location: Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House, Henriksen Room

Description: All are welcome to join us for this educational panel featuring members of the Divine 9 Historically Black Fraternities and Sororities who will share insights into the enduring significance of alumni involvement. Together, we’ll explore how these leaders cultivate lasting engagement, foster excitement, and strengthen the bonds that sustain their organizations well beyond graduation.

Douglass Day

Location: MAC Classroom 1110, Marriott Library

Description: Show your love for Black History! Join us this Valentine's Day to celebrate Douglass Day, an annual program that marks the birth of Frederick Douglass. At this event, you'll be part of a national effort to preserve Black History by transcribing historical documents.

Description: Join the CCE for an educational workshop and panel celebrating the history and cultural significance of Black hair, featuring professional locticians from our local community.

Description:Join us for an evening social in celebration of Black History Month! This event is open to all and there is no RSVP required. Food will be provided.

Express Yourself

Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Location: CSAR (Union 411)

Description: Join CSAR to "Express Yourself" at this special event in honor of Black History Month! This event is a drop-in style art activity open to all. Attendees will have the opportunity to paint in the abstract expressionist style popularized by many iconic African American Artists, and learn about Black culture, art and history.
