Overdog, a Nashville company that connects gamers, sold to New York-based Odd Networks.

Overdog, led by CEO Steve Berneman and former NFL player Hunter Hillenmeyer, was founded in 2012.

Overdog, led by CEO Steve Berneman and former NFL player Hunter Hillenmeyer, was founded in 2012. The company began as a platform to connect fans with athletes, but shifted to connecting those with similar interests. Overdog has gained traction in the massive gaming industry with 200,000 users on the XBoxOne.

Odd also is an early-stage company, created in 2015 and led by CEO Brian Corrigan. It includes a team of eight people and provides streaming services tools to clients. Berneman said he has worked with the Odd Network team in recent years and has been impressed with its engineering talent.

"The two companies are dedicated to delivering best-in-class experiences in gaming and over-the-top content, and are excited to be working together officially," Overdog's statement read.

Berneman and Hillenmeyer will stay on as advisors to Odd, located in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., but will no longer have positions in the company.

"I'm excited about the Nashville entrepreneurial scene and staying working in and around that," Berneman said.

He declined to share the terms of the deal.

Overdog attracted $2.6 million from TNInvestco fund Tennessee Community Ventures, along with capital from Nashville-based Mountain Group Capital, Atlas Venture in Boston, Chicago Ventures and the founders of Zynga and Machinima.
